Mangalore-10KThe 4th Edition of NITTE Mangalore 1/2 Marathon & 10K will be organised on Sunday, 22nd February, 2015 in the city of Mangalore.

At around 6.30 am Sunday 23 February, 2014, over 15,000 young and old were very wide-awake and braving the morning haze to take part in the 3rd Nitte Mangalore Marathon and 10K run. The record number of runners came from Karnataka state and DK, and some from India. Apart from the participants there was a mammoth crowd already lined up along the starting early in the morning to cheer up their favorite runner and others. The race has achieved its elite status among marathons by developing relationship with sponsors who provide prize money to lure elite runners who have produced few record performances. Also the runners got an opportunity to run in the heart of the city of Mangalore.

Manjunath Bhandary, President, Dakshina Kannada Athletic Association (DKAA) Organised the whole event. Athlete Ashwini Nachappa, Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee President G. Parameshwara, Ministers U.T. Khader and K. Abhayachandra Jain, MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, Athletics Association President Manjunath Bhandary, Deputy Commissioner A.B. Ibrahim, Nitte Trust Chairman N. Vinay Hegde, Mayor Mahabala Marla and others flagged off different categories of the event.

After being inspired by the spectacle of many marathons taking place abroad and also in India, Dakshina Kannada Athletics Association believed that the unique energy of Mangalore could be harnessed in the form of a road race. The Marathon has encouraged DK Athletic Association, Karnataka Athletic Association and ‘Life Is Calling’- a Bangalore-based company  to organize the event for the third year. This year the event Brand Ambassador was Dhyanchand Awardee Uday K Prabhu.
